Rebecca Lundberg
Rebecca Lundberg is an accomplished trombonist, composer/arranger, and educator. She holds a First-Class Honours degree in Music from the University of Huddersfield, where she received several awards, including the Harry Mortimer Prize for outstanding brass musicianship.
She went on to complete a Master’s in Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music under the guidance of Chris Houlding. Rebecca is currently principal trombone of the Fairey Band and her performance career includes appearances across the UK and Europe, as well as solo features on BBC Radio and at the World Music Festival.
As a dedicated educator, Rebecca is Music Subject Lead for Oak National Academy, the government-backed body supporting schools with high-quality, fully resourced, open-licensed music lessons for both primary and secondary education. She has nearly 20 years’ experience in education, primarily as a Head of Department, and then Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in Initial Teacher Education at the University of Huddersfield. In this role, she specialised in music education, pedagogy, and evidence-based teaching practice. She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Rebecca’s work as a composer and arranger spans commissions for Brass in Concert, music for the ABRSM, and a range of educational and ensemble pieces. Her music has been performed on BBC radio and television, and is published by Kirklees Music and Spartan Press. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in composition.
Since 2013, Rebecca has been the Musical Director of the Leyburn Band, a thriving community brass band based in North Yorkshire. Known for its strong local presence and commitment to musical excellence, the band has achieved numerous contest successes under her direction, including victories at Brass at Ripon, Hardraw Scar, Stanley Entertainment, and most recently the Classic FM Carol Competition. The band is passionate about making brass music relevant to communities today, recently premiering Wallace and Gromit: A Grand Day Out live, with the score arranged by Rebecca and now available for other ensembles to perform.
