Ensembles Co-ordinator & Tutor

Christopher Turner attained his Diploma from Trinity College of Music and Drama and his Postgraduate Diploma from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, after which he took up a successful freelance career working with the Halle Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Philharmonia and the Auckland Philharmonic. Alongside his freelance work, he began his teaching career as Director with the Besson School of Excellence in New Zealand.
 
Chris is Cornet Tutor for the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, a post he has held for the past 20 years, and Head of Brass and Wind for Gwent Music Support Service. He has also worked as a peripatetic brass teacher in Yorkshire and as the Brass Band Co-ordinator for the Rhondda Cynon Taff Music Service.
 
As well as his freelance and teaching career, Chris has enjoyed success working with the Brighouse & Rastrick Band as Soprano Cornetist, and Assistant Principal Cornet with the Black Dyke, Cory and Grimethorpe Colliery bands, winning many major contests. Chris is also an accomplished conductor, having worked in this capacity with several brass bands through the UK and Europe.
 
During his formative college years Chris studied with John Miller, Paul Cosh and Anne McAneney, and whilst in New Zealand he played with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and Dalewool Brass Band.
 
Chris is the founder and Director of Online Brass Lessons (OBL) – a highly successful online brass teaching studio for players of all ages and abilities. Brass Band Summer School is delighted to have Chris on board as Ensembles Co-ordinator and Tutor.
