Repertoire released for BBSS

This year’s Brass Band Summer School, taking place from 7th August at Harrogate Ladies’ College, culminating in a Finale Gala Concert on 12th August at St Wilfrid’s Church, has released some of the repertoire delegates can expect to work on during the week.

Selected by Musical Director, Dr. Robert Childs, the music has been chosen with a variety of abilities in mind and includes music of varying genres. Whilst the Imperial Band will have the opportunity to work on a programme including Verdi’s Nabucco Overture, Dave Brubeck’s Blue Rondo a la Turk, Philip Sparke’s Land of the Long White Cloud, Eric Ball’s Resurgam and Peter Graham’s Shine As the Light, the Sovereign Band’s repertoire will includes Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Alan Fernie’s Prismatic Light, James Curnow’s Trittico, John Ireland’s Comedy Overture and Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s Fire in the Blood.

In addition, both bands will accompany cornet soloist, Roger Webster for Kenny Baker’s Mission 459 and William Himes’ All that I am, before joining together to form the Prestige massed band for Eric Coates’ Dambusters March, Jonathan Bates’ By Water and the Word (in memory of Philip Biggs), Thaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, and a few more!

During the week, the BBSS Brass in Concert entertainment championship will also see another three programmes performed, including some big band classics, music from the Salvation Army repertoire and an array of solos.
